I purchased this unit to use in my home office. I searched the web and discovered this mini receiver as the only one to have 50 watts per channel. Considering I wanted to drive two Thiel CS2.2's I desired more than the typical 25 to 30 watts per channel mini systems typically provided. I also wanted a unit that did not come with it's own speakers. This unit pretty much fit the bill and has it all. For 0 it is hard to beat. My main use right now is audio and the sound quality is superb. Low volume levels are clear and the loudness option does a nice job without distorting the sound stage. The base boost is a waste as it muddies the clarity of the audio quality. FM reception was pretty good with the furnished single line FM antenna. AM reception is terrible, not unexpected, with the furnished AM antenna. Had the system up and running in no time and was very impressed with the sound quality generated from local FM signals and from manufactured CD's. CD's that I have burned myself were not near as clear and the soundstage was not as evident. There are EQ options that affect the sound only slightly. The flat option is really flat and I probably will not use it. Classical, rock, jazz and pop are all pretty close but I could hear the slight differences in each setting. Have not tried the iPod through the Aux 1 input located on the front of the unit since I need to purchase a connector that appeared through other reviews to be provided with the unit. It was not included with mine. DVD will be a future hook up when I add a flat screen to my office so I can't provide any comments on DVD quality yet. The unit sits on top of a book case and the depth of the unit is no problem at all. Remote works great from across the room and provides all the functions needed to enjoy the full range of options. More than enough power and the Thiel's are loving the 50 watts. I am glad I purchased this unit and understand the draw backs of, "If one thing breaks the whole unit needs to be serviced". The build quality seems really nice so hopefully this will not be in play for quite some time. One concern may be the CD/DVD drawer as it seems a little fragile and will take a careful and gentle touch loading and unloading discs. If the radio reception was better and the iPod connector was provided I would have rated this unit a 5. Great DVD receiver especially if you want to drive your own larger speakers from a small unobtrusive piece of all-in-one equipment. One last issue is the quality of the audio makes me want to spend too much time in my office listening to and enjoying my favorite music that the rest of the family just doesn't appreciate. For us audiophiles, you know how that goes. Trust this helps.
