The Samsung BD-P1500 1080p Blu-Ray - my only complaint

Now I have had my Samsung BD-P1500 1080p Blu-ray for 2 weeks. I've never played in possession of a Blu-Ray first. It looks nice in my closet, is quieter than my roommate, "Blu-Ray and, of course, it's got amazing sound and image. The USB port and Ethernet port for the job but I do not have the firmware or code updates are still downloading.

The only sound you hear is true some searching by title, you can listen from the couch when it's quiet. No majora lot to me. I noticed an occasional flicker in the center of the screen in some parts of the mostly black screens (such as credits). It 's always in the same frame, but could be a problem playing the discs with no internet.

One of the main advantages of the BD-P1500 1080p Blu-ray Samsung has more than my roommate is that the discs to load much faster. It also helps that there is a progress bar during the loading time, it seems less annoying makes it a lot. At leastYou know something is happening.

Of course, Samsung BD-P1500 1080p Blu-ray is not perfect. It is not top-of-the-line, then what do you expect? First, are the only outputs on the back of the RCA outputs - no coax, no headphones, none of the older types of wiring - so you need to take a new TV is not (as it would not be entirely wasted appearance HD Blu-Ray, putting on an old TV anyway). More importantly, there is no Dolby 5.1 audioOutputs.

One of the upshots of this is that you can not manage your receiver preamplifiers in the latest audio formats to play and let the Blu-ray player to decode. The old receiver, I just decoded Dolby 5.1 (no DTS). This player allows you to send a modulated pulse stream to the receiver to a Dolby 5.1, but my receiver only seen as a channel-2 (not "speak" Pulse Code Modulation). At least the player can downgrade sample rates, so that elderly beneficiariesis still robust, though not as pristine as it could be a modern receiver.

I ended up going out and pay for a new receiver to use the offers sound quality that the Samsung BD-P1500 1080p Blu-ray player. Maybe a little 'compulsive, but did not seem right, have a wonderful new image and unique not a perfect sound to go with him.

So my conclusion is that for people with television receivers most recent and most recent - the Blu-rayPlayer is top notch. If you have an older receiver, ironically, the savings would be better, you pay a little more for a player with Dolby 5.1 and analog continue to use the existing receiver.

Product Details

Toshiba DVD features Dual Disc Twin Trays. Plays DVD, Audio CD, and Video CD formats. Included Dolby Digital Surround Sound Processor. 4X picture zoom. Remote Control.

  • Built-in Dolby Digital decoding with 5.1 output
  • Dual-disc loading
  • Dolby Digital and DTS output
  • Decodes HDCD-encoded CDs
  • Spatializer Virtual Surround Sound

The Toshiba SD-3109 combines extraordinary audio options with state-of-the-art digital video playback to give you an experience equal to--or better than--the cinema.

The Toshiba SD-3109 was easy to set up--it automatically detected our type of audio output (two-channel) and video format (4:3). Its rear video and audio connections were clearly labeled. The manual is easy to follow; lots of graphics make it simple to figure out how to connect in any possible configuration. Also, the front-panel button layout is simple, leaving more complicated functions to the full-featured, glow-in-the-dark remote.

The Toshiba SD-3109's most unique feature is its dual-disc loader, which lets you put in two DVDs for a double feature (or two audio CDs for a longer listening experience). The Toshiba SD-3109 let us program tracks and chapters from both discs, although it wouldn't allow us to randomize playback across discs. We were pleased, however, to be able to load one disc while the other one was playing.

The Toshiba SD-3109 offers traditional DVD features such as camera-angle selection, subtitling, and language preference, but it also has a good selection of more-advanced features. The Toshiba SD-3109 lets you zoom in (up to 3x on our test disc) and features reverse- and forward-play speeds of from 1/8x to 30x normal. The Toshiba SD-3109 also does a great job of finding specific sections on a disc--it even lets you locate scenes by their time into the disc.

The SD-3109's audio options impressed us; not only does this DVD player offer high-resolution digital-to-analog converters and a wide variety of audio-out selections (including linear PCM as well as DTS and Dolby Digital surround options), but it also lets you adjust the outputs to the center/surround speakers to mimic an ideally spaced home-theater system. Users with stereo-only playback will appreciate the Spatializer 3D sound-enhancement feature, which creates expansive surround-like audio using just two speakers.

In addition to playing audio CDs and digital video CDs, the Toshiba SD-3109's circuitry also lets you play High Definition Compatible Digital-encoded CDs, which increase the audio resolution from 16 to 20 bits for improved sound staging and greater dynamic range--improvements that carry over in a more limited way to the playback of standard CDs.

Pros:

  • Handy two-disc loader
  • Extensive audio options
  • Wide range of fast-forward and reverse-play options
  • Easy-to-use remote
  • Component video outputs

Cons:

  • Can't randomize audio tracks across both loaded discs
  • No headphone jack
