I made the mistake of buying 2 of these poorly manufactured piles of crap. I have had them for only a few months and have not used them very often. Neither of them work. On one of them the swivel piece broke, now the screen just hangs there. The other will not play a DVD without it freezing. I play the same DVDs on better made products and have no problems. To make matters worse Amazon and J&R music (the company they sent me these things) refuse to provide any help. Sure, the thing has a "limited warranty", which I've already used once because one of the batteries would not work. Using the warranty requires the consumer to spend additional money for shipping, just to receive another piece of junk. Both companies should have the decency to take back poor quality products and provide a refund. I will never buy anything from Amazon or J&R music again and recommend you do the same.

A Big Disappointment -- And a Big Step Backwards from Panasonic - AlanC - New York, NY
There was a time when Panasonic made, arguably, the best portable DVD players. That time has passed. I'm surprised that so many reviewers praise the picture quality of this model -- it just ain't there. Having used earlier Panasonic portables, maybe I was expecting too much. In any event, I got too little. It's okay in a crunch, I suppose, and my kids don't seem to mind the subpar picture (colors, saturation, sharpness are all off the mark, even with the (limited) adjustment the unit allows you). Okay, it didn't cost an arm and a leg, but it's a big letdown, all the same. I'm getting way better picture quality on an ancient Aiwa portable DVD player, as well as a five-year-old Toshiba. Oh, and the unit looks and feels cheaply made, too. Not Panasonic's finest moment.

This product is low quality. I am a lucky owner, it has basically worked for me on the DC adapter (car use), but it is flaky. It will not play most DVD+R or DVD-R format reliably, nor CD-R or CD+R. It generally handles DVD-ROM. Many folks have problems with Disc Read errors after a few months (Usually a dirty internal laser lens). [I've not had this issue.] Battery life on Normal is 2 hours, but you have to really work at it, power cycling the battery every few months. On "low/dimm" brightness the battery lasts a bit longer. On one of my units the drive motor is noisy, and spins up poorly. The power switches are flaky after a few months, and you have to sometimes fiddle with it. This is a problem when kids are watching in the car. Pluses: Car mount pack is nice. Remote control has always worked when batteries nickle cell is in good charge. Sound is fine on my unit, but many people report what appears to be a completely broken audio amplifier. [...] website is down, and phone support is useless. I would not pay more than for a unit at this point (and shipping or free). Unless you get a great price, or are a gambler and feel lucky, probably you should look elsewhere.

Despite the other reviewers, this RCA DVD player is not horrible for the price. I've had one since June 2009, and we've put it through its paces. It has survived multiple car trips (over 4 hours) and one airplane trip to Florida without any trouble. It does a good job outputting to a SD TV too. However, it has a few problems. For starters, the buttons are poorly labeled. In fact, there are four buttons that don't even have labels. Additionally, the screen and speaker don't shut off when outputting to the TV. Finally, the battery can not be removed. It certainly beats the no-name models we've purchased before.

When I first bought this player, it worked wonderfully. However, as many other people have found, it started popping oopen by itself after a few months. I just put something on top to keep it closed.

Also, it seems as though it has trouble reading disks when changing over from NTSC to PAL. Sometimes it takes a while for it to work.

Some minor plusses: it does play any format and region. I have had absolutely no trouble with VCDs and SVCDs, which I constantly make.

This would be an excellent player if it would just stay totally fixed.

This DVD player is the pitts! I have replaced it on 3 different occasions and it breaks with in 30-45 days. I will not replace it again. We purchased this unit in late March anticipating several long car trips. It was easy to install and use. However, the power cord had a loose connection and would often come unplaugged from the main unit during travel. We should have sent it back then, but decided to live with it. After the third use (each use being about 4 hours long), both screens stopped working. There is still audio, but no picture. Since the 90 day warranty has expired, Audiovox offered to fix it for a fee, plus shipping. So - overall we got about 12 hours use from this 0 device...

It's the BEST portable dvd player I have ever bought. I LOVE IT!!!!!! The sound on it is awesome. It's super loud if you don't want to have your headphones on. I love that you don't need the remote.
